Baggage Policy

British Airways has a baggage policy that outlines the maximum size and weight allowances for checked and carry-on Baggage and any additional fees that may apply. British Airways baggage policy is designed to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of passengers and their belongings. Therefore, following the size and weight allowances and additional regulations can provide a smooth travel experience with British Airways.

Carry-on/Cabin Baggage Policy

  1. Passengers can bring one piece of cabin baggage and one personal item on board, such as a handbag or laptop bag. The maximum dimensions of the cabin baggage must not exceed 22 x 18 x 10 inches (56 x 45 x 25 cm), including wheels, handles, and any side pockets.
  2. Certain items not allowed in cabin baggage for safety reasons, such as sharp objects, firearms, or explosives. These items must be checked in as hold luggage. Additionally, there are restrictions on liquids, aerosols, and gels, which must be stored in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less and placed in a clear, sealable bag.

NOTE: Bulkhead seats lack under-seat storage, so all carry-on and cabin luggage must be stored in the overhead compartment during takeoff and landing.

Checked Baggage

British Airways' checked baggage policy allows passengers to check in bags for their journey. However, checked baggage must comply with specific rules to ensure the safety and security of all passengers on board.

The number of bags you can check depends on your cabin class and ticket type. For example, economy class passengers can fit in one bag, while premium economy and business class passengers can check in two. First-class passengers can check in three packs. The maximum weight per bag is 50 pounds (23 kg) for all cabin classes.

Excess or Additional Baggage Fee

If you have an additional bag to carry, you have to pay an extra sum for it, and if the weight exceeds the mark of 32 kg, it will not be accepted as a checked bag, and the chargers will be pretty heavy.

Type of Bag Weight Dimension Fare
Hand Baggage 23 Kg 40 x 30 x 15 cm Free
Cabin Baggage  23 Kg  56 x 45 x 25 cm Free
Checked Baggage 23 kg 90 x 75 x 43 cm $ 25.7 – $ 83.5
Excess Baggage 32 kg 90 x 75 x 43 cm  $ 83.5 (per bag)

Sports Equipment Fee

Passengers may be charged an additional fee for checking in sports equipment, depending on the equipment's weight and size and the flight route. Prices vary depending on the type of equipment and the destination, so it's essential to check the British Airways website for the most up-to-date information.

Sports equipment that can be checked in as part of a passenger's baggage allowance includes golf bags, skis, snowboards, and bicycles. Other things, such as surfboards or windsurfing equipment, may need to be transported as cargo due to their size and weight.
